I used coffee for my additive texture coil because I liked to color that the coffee made. To me the piece I made looks like a sand dune. Another great thing that I like about it is that it smells great. I like the neutral color that the coffee made. The color makes like a vanilla brown. I would say that I put about 2 coats on it. I really didn't want to add a glossy look to it because I liked the way the coffee gave it a matte look.
In this project I tried creating a giraffe/elephant. I started off making the elephant feet by using coils and designing the nails. It took me a very long time making the feet because I out in a lot of quality time into it. The next thing that I worked on was the giraffe's body. It was very hard making the body because I had to stuff the inside with newspaper so it wouldn't cave in. Making the giraffe's neck was going good until I had to re-attach my elephant feet and focus on that. This was also very hard because multiple feet came un-attached.
What were you thinking when you started working on your art? The thing I was thinking about when I started my work was that this was going to be one of my best artworks. When I came back from Spring Break I was totally wrong. I was planning for it to actually look like a giraffe. I actually made the feet look like an elephant's but I know I worked hard and put effort into and I was satisfied. Is the end result what you expected? Why or why not? The end result was not what I was expecting. I expected it to be finished and perfected. I honestly thought that it would be done. I should of just did all of my elephant by using coils. The foundation of the feet is what really made everything wrong. I really wish the body of the giraffe actually did look like a giraffe's body. The body really looked like the shape of a duck's body. The result of my project just pushes me to do better and plan out before I actually start my artwork. My object was a oval like vase with coils that kind of stood out. As I built up I would blend he coils together and make the clay stick out. I like the way my clay went because it went along with my fingers.
When I first started on my artwork I was trying to go for a more round like object that looked like a closed flower. I had just went along with the flow and didn't end up doing what I wanted. My end result wasn't really what I expected but I actually really did like it. The most hardest thing for me creating this artwork was in what to do. I wasn't so sure what I wanted to or had a plan. The obstacles I faced were making the coils and smoothing out my artwork. My artwork was really cool I believe, it had a very nice look to it. I got told it looked like a car piece. Which artwork was your most successful? |
